Before you even discuss anything with your boss, spouse or kids, friends think about time.

If you are expected to be on call or online for a specific time zone, plan accordingly.

If you support the east coast of the US and need EST, you may want to go to Europe or Asia or Africa so you are always AHEAD of EST.

9am in new York is 2pm in London or 3pm in Paris so think about it.

Compared to Hawaii which is 6 hours BEHIND so 9am New York is 3AM in Hawaii. Not very fun.

Now that you have some ideas which way to go around the world, now where do you want to go?

The world is flat, fast and funny too.

You work like a dog maybe or are never there for your kids or spouse.

Maybe you want to teach your kids something and never have time.

Maybe you haven’t taken vacation in a year or 3. And I don’t mean a weekend here or there, but a real vacation.

Well that was my thinking before I started this site and our plans for our Workation.

Before I elaborate on our trip, I want to provide the basis for this blog and what it will be about.

While I will be the “worker”, the family is on vacation. It is a 7 week vacation, the summer time, the kids are off from school and would go to camp normally.

We aren’t wealthy so don’t think this is a posh idea. This is a practical solution to our circumstances. It may not work for everyone, but if we can do it this year, we can do it every year and my kids will really have something to talk about in September in school.

I will detail more as I go forward and look to provide road maps for others looking to do this in the future.

Keep in mind, in this world you can, should be and most likely are already mobile and wireless so what else is there to stop you? We will get to that as well in the future posts.
